The contemporary technological and scientific needs of the Nigerian economy have orchestrated restructuring of the programme to a wider horizon, involving Agricultural and Bioenvironmental Engineering by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), in order to address the present day needs. The National Diploma programme of Agricultural Engineering was mounted in the Institute of Management and Technology in 1998 with a population of three students. As at date, the department has metamorphosed into a fully accredited National and Higher National Diploma programme of 45 and 50 students at ND and HND respectively.
The main objective of this programme is to train agricultural and bioenvironmental engineering technologists/technicians in the following fields of human endeavours:
- Design, construction and maintenance of agricultural machines and equipment;
- Harnessing natural water resources to ensure optimum crop production, through efficient soil and management; irrigation, drainage, soil moisture conservation, etc.;
- To design and construct storage structures such as silos, bins, warehouses, etc.;
- To add value to agricultural produce through efficient use of electrical power sources in agricultural processing machines.
